| Trekkers- Who are We and What are We About? |
|
The Trekkers Volkssport Club is a non-profit organization providing its
members and other interested individuals with an opportunity to enjoy
Volkssporting activities. The Club adheres to the rules of the Canadian
Volkssport Federation (CVF/FCV) which in turn is a member of the International
Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). |
The Trekkers are blessed to have 110 active members. Approximately 1/3 are from St Albert, 1/3 from Edmonton and 1/3 from other communities surrounding Edmonton. To become a member simply print a copy of our membership application and mail it to our club address on the form.
|
In addition to walking the club holds potlucks, brunches, BBQ's and picnics which adds to the friendship aspect of the activity.
Many of the club members attend the annual Alberta Conference (Camrose in 2009, St Albert in 2010, Red Deer in 2011, and Devon in 2012) and the annual Canadian Conference (North Bay ON in 2009, Sydney NS in 2010, Whistler in 2011, and Ottawa ON in 2012). |
|
The Club organizes Volkswalks, event walks, guided walks and year-round
events in Edmonton AB and adjacent municipalities. The Club cooperates with the
other Volkssport clubs in Alberta to develop a schedule of walks for the whole
the year.
|
Most members participate in the IVV "Awards" program which entails recording,
in an IVV booklet, the events and distances walked. Certificates, pins and
patches are awarded following completion of progress levels of achievement.
Participants walk for fun, fitness and friendship at their own pace in a
non-competitive environment. | | |
